The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), was founded on 21 June, 1888 by Monsignor Mariano Casanova, Archbishop of Santiago. His goal was to create an institution capable of blending academic excellence and training based on Christian doctrine. The University became Pontifical university in 1930 and in 1931 it was granted full academic autonomy by the Chilean government.  Currently ranked 3 in Latin America and 170 worldwide (QS World Univ. Rankings, 2016/2017),it is one of Chile's oldest universities and one of the most recognized educational institutions in Latin America.

PUC's 18 faculties are distributed through four campuses in Santiago and one regional campus located in southern Chile.
