Founded in 1958, the University of Oulu or Oulun Yliopisto is one of the largest higher education institutions in Finland, located in the city of Oulu mid-way up the west coast of Finland on the Gulf of Bothnia.
The University of Oulu follows the Scandinavian and European university tradition with an excellent reputation in research and teaching and it is often ranked among the top international universities in the world. With six faculties, it has a steadily growing number of international students and professors.
The University of Oulu have defined four distinct research focus areas which are biosciences and health, information technology, cultural interaction and identity and environment, natural resources and materials.
