Program Description:

Ca' Foscari University of VeniceCa'Foscari

Ca' Foscari University of Venice is set in a Venetian Gothic palace overlooking the widest bend of the Grand Canal. The site of the University was originally purchased in 1452 by the Doge, Francesco Foscari, who demolished the Casa delle Due Torri (House of the Two Towers) which had formerly stood there, and built a more imposing building. The Foscari name lives on today as the Ca' Foscari University (Ca' being short for 'casa', meaning house).

Today there are approximately 20,000 students at Ca' Foscari University of Venice in four faculties: Economics, Foreign Languages and Literature, Humanities, and Science.

Did you know...

During restoration work between 2004-2006, three remarkable discoveries were made: ninth century remains beneath an external keyboard, a frescoed floor from the fifteenth century, and gilded ceilings from the sixteenth century. There is a guided visit service for visitors to tour the internal and external spaces of Ca' Foscari Palace.
