Program Description:

Wageningen University and Research CentreWageningen University campus

Wageningen University and Research, also known as Wageningen UR or WUR, was founded as the National Agricultural College (Rijkslandbouwschool) in 1876 in the town of Wageningen in the the Netherlands. With the development of higher education training it began to teach forestry and horticulture and in 1918 it was established officially by law.  Further legal changes in the 1980s meant the college was declared a university as Wageningen Agricultural University.  In the 1990s it merged with several government research institutes and assumed its current name.

In the field of life sciences, agricultural and environmental science, the University is considered world-class. It was ranked the best university in the Netherlands in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and No. 1 worldwide in agriculture and forestry in 2016 according to the QS World University Rankings.
