Panthéon-Sorbonne University - Paris I, in French Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, often simply Paris 1, was established in 1971 as the historical University of Paris (La Sorbonne) was divided up into thirteen smaller institutions following the student protests of 1968.  It is one of the largest French universities and is an important centre of research and teaching in France.

In recent times the University merged the departments of Public Law, Public Administration and Public Affairs, Business Law, International and European Studies, General Law Studies, the Jean Domat Institute (preparation for the bar and judges exams), and the Paris Insurance Institute (insurance law) forming the École de droit de la Sorbonne ("Sorbonne Law School").

The second year masters program of the Global Business Law and Governance is a taught in English as it also includes students from Columbia University, New York, and the City University of Hong Kong.
