Waseda University - January School
 
Waseda University is offering a six week January School of classes, designed for international students.  This program is organised and run by the Centre for Japanese Language at Waseda University.  The goal of the program is to cultivate students’ overall Japanese language ability.  Through classes provided at different levels, students can study Japanese language according to their own abilities and goals.  Students take the classes of 10 units per week for six weeks and work with a text book aimed mainly at elementary level students.  A full list of subject options is available here

How much does it cost?*
Approximately A$1,990 (¥175,000) for 3 subjects.


Costs for extracurricular activity and insurance are included.  Textbooks, housing, and transportation costs are additional.
 
*Costs do not include airfares; interested students are responsible for funding their associated travel to get to the host university.  Australian rates are as at 24 July 2017.
 
How much credit can be earned?
Each subject in the January School is worth four Japanese credits.  Students must take at least four credits to earn 12.5 University of Melbourne points from their study.  You must get your overseas study plan approved for credit to your degree here before leaving Melbourne, and students are encouraged to have multiple subjects approved to provide themselves with maximum flexibility.

It is the responsibility of each student to find their own accommodation.  You can apply accommodations thorough Waseda University Academic Solutions Corporation. Please directly apply to Waseda University Academic Solutions Corporation.

How to proceed?
It is your responsibility to ensure you meet any eligiblity conditions set out by the host institution; this may include any academic requirement, language proficiency test, or previous study.  

You must be nominated by the Global Mobility office to participate in the program after ensuring you meet the standard short-term overseas study eligibility criteria.
