University of Stuttgart - January School
 
The University of Stuttgart January School offers an immersive German language and cultural experience in the city of Stuttgart. This program is available to students undertaking the Bachelor of Environments only.  It combines German language studies with an additional elective of your choice.  The German language subject (90 hours and 9 ECTS) is offered at different levels from beginner through to intermediate.  In addition to the German language subject, you will select one of the following subjects: 20th Century Architecture*, Introduction to Art History - European Focus*Cross Cultural Communication*, International Business, and German Film and Literature after 1990. Each subject is worth a total of 4 ECTS and is taught in English.  For more information, click here.

Monday 15 January, 2018 - Friday 23 February, 2018.  
Arrival and Departure dates are anticipated to be within a few days of these official school dates.

How much does it cost?**
The Stuttgart January School is open to students as exchange only.

Costs that are payable cover the following:

  • Course Fee - A$810 (€550)#
  • Housing (homestay) - A$957 (€650)
#Includes unlimited public transportation within the greater Stuttgart area; excursions (bus, train, lunch, guided tours, entrance fees; except a €15 registration fee); and program administrative costs.

**Costs do not include airfares; interested students are responsible for funding their associated travel to get to their host university. Australian rates are as at 24 July 2017.

How much credit can be earned?
The combined total number of credits for these subjects is 13 ECTS. The Faculty has approved asterisked (*) subjects as level 2 Environments electives equivalent to 12.5 elective points each at the University of Melbourne.  All other subjects are pre-approved as Level 2 breadth for Environments students  and are worth 12.5 University of Melbourne points each.

Accommodation
Students will be housed in homestay accommodation with a host family.

It is your responsibility to ensure you meet any eligiblity conditions set out by the host institution; this may include any academic requirement, language proficiency test, or previous study.  

You must be nominated by the Global Mobility office to participate in the program after ensuring you meet the standard short-term overseas study eligibility criteria.
